Let’s make this easy!
Here are answers to your wedding photography questions.
1. Do you have my date available? How far in advance do I need to book?
I sure hope I’m available! The sooner you ask the better your chances. I book weddings up to 18 months in advance, and my calendar fills up fast during Savannah’s prime wedding seasons (March – June and September – December.)
2. How many weddings have you shot?
I have photographed more than 100 weddings, from intimate elopements to full-scale weddings. I’ve encountered almost every challenge and delivered gorgeous images no matter what!
3. How would you describe your photography style?
I learned photography as a journalist. I was dispatched to the middle east to cover the first Gulf War (probably before you were even born, ha!) I learned photography in that role and then I became a mother and began capturing my children. Today my style is a mix of photojournalistic (capturing the emotions of the day as they unfold) and classic and creative portraiture.
4. How do you create portraits that don’t look stiff and posed?
First, I’m fun-spirited and light-hearted. My couples tell me that I immediately make them feel relaxed and comfortable. I work with couples who are quiet and reserved and others who are loud and boisterous. It’s all perfect. I’m here to capture who YOU are. I give direction that will guide you to interact as you naturally would. Most people are a bit nervous, and I understand that. But you don’t need to worry. I’ll make sure you’re great at this!
5. How would you describe your working style?
I’m going to have fun at your wedding. I love doing this. I love interacting with you and your guests. I’m no wall flower. I’m gathering up your guests at the reception for group shots. I’m chatting with your grandma and getting photos of her and all her grandchildren. But I’m also standing back and watching your dad whisper in your ear before you walk down the aisle. I’m exactly who I need to be at any one moment to make sure we capture every part of your day.
You can read reviews here on my website and Facebook pages to get a sense of what it’s like to work with me. And I’ll be happy to supply a list of references, if you would like to speak to other couples with whom I have worked.
6. What do you think distinguishes your work from that of other photographers?
As you already know, there are many GREAT wedding photographers here in Savannah. You have many excellent choices. What makes me stand out? Simple On the day you receive your online galley, you’ll know that you made the right choice. Decades from now, you’ll be showing your grandchildren images from this day, and you’ll be so glad you invested in preserving these memories. It’s a tremendous honor and responsibility to capture your wedding day. I take it very seriously.
7. What type of equipment do you use? Do you have back-up equipment?
The very best, of course. I shoot with Canon’s top-of-the-line professional gear. Great equipment doesn’t make gorgeous images, but you can’t create gorgeous images without great equipment. I also maintain my equipment with professional cleanings and calibrations to make sure it’s always in top-notch condition.
Yes, I have back-up equipment. My back-up camera is also the highest quality professional gear. If one camera fails (and it never has!), I’ve got a second ready to go.
8. Do you shoot in both black-and-white and color?
Yes. I shoot in color and can process in both color and black-and-white.
9. Can I give you a list of specific shots we would like?
Of course. I capture all the moments you would expect, but if you have something in mind, please let me know!
10. What information do you need from me before the wedding day?
I have a few online questionnaires that will gather what I need. And we’ll also have a few in-person or Skype chats. It’s easy!
11. How does the booking process work? Do you have a contract?
After you contact me, we’ll set up a time to meet in person or Skype. I’ll ask you to tell me about yourself and your fiancée and your plans for your wedding day. Together we’ll create a basic timeline for your day. Then I’ll refine it and send it back for your review.
Next, I’ll send an online contract for you to review and sign. (I can send you a sample contract so you can see the terms. There’s nothing crazy. Just standard stuff.)
Next I’ll send invoices. I normally divide total payment into five installments, the first (the deposit) is due at booking to secure your date. The others are due in the months leading up to your wedding. I can increase or decrease the total number of payments. What works for you works for me!
12. When do I receive the images? In what format?
After the wedding, I edit around 10 images within a day or two so you can share on social media. The full online gallery is delivered within 8 weeks of the wedding.
You can share your online gallery with friends and family. You can download high-resolution images and print and use them as you like. You can purchase prints and canvases through my gallery site, but you don’t have to. (I use a very high-quality lab that professional photographers use. It’s a bit more expensive, but I love the quality.)
Would you like to see a gallery? Let me know and I’ll send you a link to several.
13. Will we do an engagement shoot?
Oh, I hope so! I love doing engagement shoots. It helps us get to know each other better. It helps you understand how my shooting style works. It’s a win-win! Engagement shoots are included at no extra charge in my wedding packages, and you can add them to an elopement package.
14. Are you the photographer who will shoot my wedding? If so, will you have any assistants with you on that day?
Yes, I will be shooting your wedding. I work with other photographers in the region, but I shoot all weddings booked under my name. I encourage you to consider having a second photographer. I work only with other highly talented professionals who can help make sure ever moment of your day is captured.
15. If my wedding site is out of your area, do you charge a travel fee?
I’m located in Richmond Hill, right outside of Savannah. I shoot anywhere in the Savannah/Tybee Island area at no additional charge. Travel fees vary by distance.
16. How will you (and your assistants) be dressed?
I’m coming to your wedding so I’m definitely dressing for it! I may wear nice blouse and dark pants or a dress and leggings or tights. (I’m always crouching down and popping back up so I don’t wear a dress without leggings or tights. That’s just not ladylike!)
17. Is it okay if other people take photos while you're taking photos?
This is totally up to you. I will work around people the very best I can. And I’ll be super nice about it!
18. Have you ever worked at my wedding site before?
If it’s in this area, more than likely I have. And if not, I will visit it in advance.
19. What if my reception lasts longer than expected?
If you decide you want me to stay longer, I will! (Don’t worry. I only schedule one wedding per day, so you’ve got my undivided attention.) I’ll charge my normal hourly rate.
20. What packages do you offer? Can I customize a package based on my unique needs?
You can find info on my Pricing page. And YES. I definitely customize to your needs.
21. Do you create albums?
Yes, I do! I can create a beautiful album for you. (I still pull my own out every now and then. I recently showed it to my teenage daughter. Fun! She had never seen her dad with hair!) Or I can show you a site where you can create your own.
22. Do you provide retouching, color adjustment or other corrective services?
You can tell from my portfolio that I don’t do anything crazy, but yes, I do image-wide color correction and I hand edit to make sure you look your very best. Again, nothing crazy. You are going to look amazing and my images will capture that.
23. Are you a legit business with liability insurance, etc.
Yes! I have a business license, pay taxes, and I have equipment and liability insurance. It’s all on the up and up!
24. Will you be posting my images on social media? Submitting for publication on online and printed wedding publications?
Yes, I will. I love sharing my work. It’s how I build a portfolio to show future clients. Would you rather I didn’t share your images? Not a problem. I’m more than happy to honor your wishes. Just let me know!
